Lets storm the Parking Office!" shouted a voice from the crowd.

Over 100 residents gathered on Tuesday, September 9 in the courtyard
of Park Points shopping center to air grievances and brainstorm
about how to deal with the new parking regulations on campus.
The meeting began at 8 p.m. and was called together by third
year Advertising Photography student Heather Martin, who lives
and works at Park Point.

While the overwhelming complaint was the restriction from parking

On April 14th and 15th, Parking and Transportation
Services (PATS) held open focus
groups presenting proposals made for improvements
to parking and transportation on
campus. The focus groups were held in cooperation
with national consultants Martin Alexiou
Bryson (MAB), a transportation and traffic engineering
firm, and Cooper, Robertson & Partners
(CRP), an urban planning firm. These latest proposals
represent the third phase in a strategic
planning initiative by PATS, to improve how...

Grand Theft Auto: Brick City

For the second time this year, a car has been stolen from the RIT campus. According to the media crime report, the incident happened sometime on October 2 while the vehicle was parked in the Perkins Green Apartments. The car was an older Honda Accord, which was the same model as the first stolen car.

Blake DeBerto, the owner of the first targeted car, recently found his vehicle abandoned and stripped down. The cars stereo and tires had been removed, and the inside suffered...

Car Crime Spree Hits Campus

Within the past few weeks, several cars in
parking lots around campus have been broken
into, resulting in damages and stolen property
in most cases and outright auto theft in one
case. No arrests have been made in response
to these crimes.

According to a media crime report, the first incident
occurred on September 12, sometime between
7:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. The car was parked
at the University Commons and suffered some
damage as a result.

Four other cases occurred on September...

Parking Regulations Tighten Up

New parking regulations, which took effect September 1st, come as the result of the
increased demand for parking. These guidelines, first mentioned at the Parking and
Transportation Services' (PATS) strategy presentations last year, designate all academic
parking lots for use by commuter students, faculty and staff only. Resident students,
a group that now includes the Park Point apartment tenants, are restricted from the
academic lots during business hours (5 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Parking: How to Find the Sweet Spot

So, you've decided to bring your
car to RIT and leave your carbon
footprint all over campus.
You may have peeked at the Parking
and Transportation Services'
website and noticed that they're a
little vague about fines and claim
to be a little extreme in their punishment.
Yes, it says that your car
can be impounded, but unless you
find a way to park your car in President
Destler's office, I wouldn't
worry about the tow trucks.

Fines, however, are a reality and
can vary depending...

PATS To Create Urban Design Plan

Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is
planning a comprehensive strategy for automobile,
pedestrian, and bicycle traffic for the next
five to ten years. As part of this strategy, PATS
plans on soliciting input from the RIT community
at a series of public meetings.

Jonathan Maurer, Director of Business Operations
for Global Risk Management Services, said
an overall plan was needed, because "all of the
pieces of moving people, including parking for
cars, shuttle buses,...
