RIT's Matt Smith and Simone Lambert Go Pro

Two of RIT's own, senior forwards Matt Smith
and Simone Lambert, have signed contracts to
play hockey professionally.

Smith signed with the South Carolina Stingrays,
part of the East Coast Hockey League, back in
March. He made his first appearance in a professional
game on March 2, 2008. He has two
shots on goal. Smith's career at RIT was a strong
one with 62 goals and 51 assists. Even further,
Smith's 44 power-play goals are tied with the
most in the history of the men's hockey...

Me Generation

Why It's All About Us
In Greek mythology, hubris, or pride, is the tragic flaw that
often brings about the downfall of the main character. A
prime example of this is Narcissus, who was known as the
most beautiful man on earth. Just as Narcissus fell in love
with his own reflection, "Generation Me" is slowly becoming
so engrossed with themselves that creativity and individualism
are falling to the side. Will we break our gaze and see
the reality of our egotism, or will we become a...

RIT's Hockey Season Ends

The men's hockey team fell to Air Force 5-0 in what was described
as an "abrupt end to the season" by RIT Head Coach
Wayne Wilson. Air Force took the lead early in the game with
one goal scored by the end of the first period. Brennan Sarazin,
a third year left wing, crashed the net late in the first period,
only to be stopped by Air Force's goalie Andrew Volkening in
one of RIT's best attempts at scoring.

Despite a brief mid-second period RIT rally, with an RIT power-play advantage
of...

Monday, 951 p.m.
Hey I just saw camp-po pulled over by
a cop. They had everything spread out,
giving them a full cavity search. I hope
someone got a picture of that one.

Wednesday, 1255 p.m.
Yo Rings, last night I saw a kid dance to techno music in
only his cape and a pair of boxers. Totally your people.

Tuesday, 1105 p.m.
Isaac Newton came up with
the theory of gravity, but he
stole it from some other dude.
It was like some Indian dude

to find something that wouldn't pique
your curiosity.

Hockey Broadcaster

Reason for Nomination »

After 26 years of broadcasting
RIT's hockey
games, he will be retiring.

What do you do as a broadcaster
for the hockey games?

We volunteer our time at the radio station -
we finished our 26th year just last month.
There is a group of us that plan the travel and expenses,
getting some advertising and underwriters.
But primarily, I am the play-by-play guy.
I follow the action and relay what I see...

3 Stars Andrew Ruocco

Lacrosse has been a life-long endeavor for fourth
year Andrew Ruocco. "In the town I'm from,
Corning, NY, you pretty much grow up with a
stick in your hand," said Ruocco, who started
playing at the age of six. Ruocco described Corning
as "lacrosse land," its devotion stemming
from a strong high school program.

"When I came in as a freshman, I had the opportunity
to step into a pretty important role," told
Ruocco of his arrival on the RIT team. Ruocco
began as a starter, along with...

3 Stars Ryan Tryt

Ryan Tryt, fourth year
Catcher, had humble
beginnings in baseball
"I got my first
start in baseball in
my backyard playing
with my Dad, my
two older brothers,
and even my Mom."
Tryt began playing
organized baseball at
the age of six, and has
not stopped since.

When it came to choosing
colleges, RIT was not
Tryt's first choice, "Both
of my older brothers went
to RIT as engineers-one
electrical, the other mechanical-
so when it was
time for me to go to college,
I wanted to...

Getting Some Experience

This spring has been unaccommodating
to RIT's baseball team. All regular
season games were cancelled thus far,
including a recent postponed doubleheader
against St. John Fisher. Undeterred,
the team eagerly continues to
prepare for their first season game. Senior second
baseman and co-captain Matt George described
the pre-season practice schedule "We've been
practicing inside since January with 6a.m. practices.
Since the snow melted and it warmed up a
little bit, we've been able to...

In a nail-biting finish, the Women's Lacrosse
team was victorious over Denison University
in their season opener. RIT was down 2-6 at
halftime. Another unanswered point in the
second half would have been disastrous. Goalie
and co-captain Kelsey Evans, a sophomore
in Photojournalism, described what helped
to turn the tide "Coach told us we needed to
step it up, start winning the draw and scoring
some goals." Coach McGuigan felt it was a few
dedicated players who kept RIT in the...
